Welcome to my blog RoyalWatching.com. This blog will focus on news, fashion and general information about world royals. Initially, posts will center around European royals with a few Asian and Middle Eastern monarchies. History was my second major at The University of Texas at Austin and it was my second teaching field. Since my childhood, I have enjoyed reading and learning about “kings and queens” which included their biographies and accomplishments as rulers.
Today there are 28 sovereigns across 43 countries in the world. Another way at looking at this factoid is to say that 22% of the 193 UN member states have a monarch. You can learn which countries have reigning monarchs here and read about living former monarchs here.
Naturally, these 28 sovereigns have families who join the monarch in performing public duties for their countries. These royal families also experience family life ranging from births, marriage to abdications and funerals. Royals live out their special and privileged lives in a very public forum so there is great opportunity to see them in action and watch them from faraway places like Texas, USA. This quote, I think, shows the dedication that many royals have to their roles as sovereigns and members of a small élite group.
I cannot lead you into battle. I do not give you laws or administer justice but I can do something else – I can give my heart and my devotion to these old islands and to all the peoples of our brotherhood of nations. ~Queen Elizabeth II
I will not spotlight political discussions that center around monarchists and republican notions. Rather I want to introduce you to the beauty and functions of a royal life. I will sprinkle historical information from time to time. I do not hold myself out as an expert on royal matters, so if you find that I have made an error please contact me and give me correction. I am certainly open to learning.
I invite you to come back and visit RoyalWatching.com often. I also urge you to sign-up for email notice of new posts.
